The parisian designer Franck Sorbier exhibit Haute Couture. It’s in the historical city of silk: Lyon, that the designer exhibit his most marvelous pieces. He choose the museum of textile to reveal his talent.
20 years of creativity, 10 years of Haute Couture. His eponymous Couture collection has always been lauded by journalists, stylists , buyers... Now he brings us in high fashion world, the time of an exhibition. He embraces it with energy and modernism.
The exhibition is organized through different chromatics universes. It starts with Black and it finishes in White. Between it, there is like a combination of drawings, costumes, videos... Traditionnal technics and innovation reveal the authenticity of this High Fashion label. What starts in darkness finish in light and brighteness.
It’s through clocks, birds, poetry, onirism that the designer explain us
170 pieces are coming off the darkness. During the exhibition it’s a game of lights which underlines the oniric universe of the designer. Franck Sorbier claims through these pieces, that behind all the negativity which surrounds Haute Couture, it’s still alive. Sorbier’s Haute couture is stunning and diverse. The designer built a manifesto of Colors. He makes them speak and he use it in infinite way: silk, organza, plastic, ribbons, embroideries, dingo patch, lace... He declines it in infinite materials. Manufactured products, artistical work are so many values to protect.
Not only talented, he’s the expression of the maintain of Haute Couture in fashion industry. The exhibition is summed up by: authenticity, technicity, ability to innovate.
For all those who claim that : “high fashion is dying”, the designer make them quiet. He has a personnal understanding of high fashion. He introduces us Haute couture in a traditionnal way with very nobles materials. He renew it in using modern materials such as plastic bags or “Scoobidoos”.
Playing with colors is all an art and he does it with talent. Poetry is giving the tempo of the exhibition. The talented designer built different characters such as the “magician” or “Anna Karenine”...
Drawings become alived-characters, and each of them has an history. Franck Sorbier renew Haute couture: he mixes tradition and modernity and show us that Haute couture is evoluting and not dying. He’s inspired by cultures: (Afro, Makossa...), he’s giving memory to historical characters (Anna Karenine), because Couture is memory.
A richly varied cast of characters appears in Sorbier exhibition. It’s like being transported in Alice’s wonderlands world. Each piece is getting alive, when the light is on, and they’re transformed when light is off. The designer highlight the question of the perception of High fashion. When the light is on, clothes are alived, when it’s turned off it’s like dead pieces, but the designer give them a memory.
He has fun with materials: silk is soft, broderies are stunningly shiny, organzas are telling us stories. What’s sure is that this exhibiton is a serious trip of technicity. It’s a commemoration of beauty and craft work. The designer celebrated high fashion.
